Dealing with Spring Time Allergies

Breathe Easier This Spring

It’s that time of the year when flowers start to bloom and pollen begins to fill the air. While it’s beautiful outside, it can sometimes wreak havoc on those who suffer from seasonal allergies. We deal with eliminating allergens all the time when we clean carpet and upholstery, but there are also some other things you can do to ensure you breathe a little bit easier while you enjoy the onset of spring.

    • Clean Air Filters. Air filters used with your heating and air conditioning systems are great for catching dirt and ensuring everything runs smoothly. However, when they get too caked with dust, then all the air coming through your system must first pass through these dirty filters, potentially picking up allergens along the way. Make sure they are cleaned and replaced regularly to minimize allergens in your home.
    • Get the Right Kind of Air. If you suffer from spring time allergies, then flowers and pollen are likely the problem. If this is the case then be sure to keep your windows closed, and take off your shoes before tracking outdoor allergens through your home. If allergens from indoor dust are your problem, then we recommend opening the windows and letting some fresh air - or just be very thorough when you clean!
    • Mold and Chemicals. Some common causes of indoor allergies are a result of letting the dishes sit for too long, causing mold to form and spores to enter the air. So keep your dishes, and home, clean to avoid these allergens. However, avoid industrial strength cleaners that contain strong chemicals, as these too can cause adverse effects to those sensitive to allergens.
    • Remove Dust, Don’t Spread It. We’ve established that keeping your home clean is essential, but be certain you are removing the dust and not just spreading it around. Remember to remove your shoes when coming from outside, we can’t stress this enough. Avoid feather dusters and similar cleaning tools and these will spread the dust around rather than actually removing it; instead use a damp cloth that will absorb the dust and remove it for good. And, please don’t forget your bedroom. A clean room will lead to a good night’s sleep for you and less allergies to deal with.

Of course, one of the best things you can do is have your carpets cleaned professionally. We happen to specialize in carpet cleaning, so give us a call and get rid of the allergies today!
